Risque Marketing?

image

Kane Marie has always marketed women for their jewelry, art and gifts.  For the 2007 holiday season, I wanted to think outside the box.  I wanted to do something extra special for the men during this holiday season. So I started to put my mind to work.  What do men like?  Cigars, Yes.  Drinks, Yes.  Good atmosphere, Yes.  Good Deals on Merchandise, Yes.  Then I thought, how could I have this party without some pretty ladies modeling jewelry.  WOW!  I thought I could throw the most amazing party that the men of Hampton Roads haven’t experienced.  So my staff and I began to organize an amazing event.  My graphics guy came up with an amazing invitation.  It was an image of a sherlock holmes looking guy holding a ring.  I thought it was classy and sophisticated.  We sent a couple of these invites out, and received very little response.  So I thought we needed to spice up the invitation a bit.  I told him to find me images of lovely ladies that would attract men’s attention.  So we did and WOW.

We received an overwhelming response, both positive and negative.  Men were calling from all over wanting to RSVP for the event.  Needless to say, we had a rave review of our event, and people wanting to sign up for next years.  Ladies however were not impressed. They thought the tactic was “tacky”.  Was it really?  I don’t think so.  I’m sure the guy who came up with the idea of the IPhone even got some heat, but that doesn’t mean he came up with a bad idea.  I’m from L.A.; a place where you have to stand out to be noticed.

What is the big deal?  What would you have done different?
